Neurology in Clinical Practice is a comprehensive and practical book that covers all of the clinical neurosciences for neurologists in training and in practice. The original intent of the book was to produce a very comprehensive textbook that focused on clinical neurology - with less focus on the basic sciences. This is key, as neurology has changed from being a specialty with very few therapeutic options to one with vast amounts of diagnostic and management choices. The four editors began their careers in neurology at a time when the explosion of knowledge in basic neuroscience was beginning and have been able to observe the ever-increasing application of this knowledge to clinical neurology. The book provides not only a description of neurological disease and its pathophysiology but also a practical approach to diagnosis and management , which only years of experience can offer. It is emphasised that a complete understanding of diagnostic techniques is essential for the clinical neurologist, but such techniques must not supplant clinical skills. This new edition has been completely revised and updated to include the plethora of new developments in the field, and 40% of the contributors are new, reflecting the very best and most current of today's research and clinical practice . Most excitingly, this title now comes packaged with a website , which will provide all the text online and fully searchable, easily-downloadable images, regular weekly updates to content and patient handouts and useful links to other websites.
- Key Features
- Considered the Gold Standard on clinical neurology and the most authoritative text on the subject - rather than being anecdotal, readers learn from world-class experts in a very reliable way.
- Using leading authorities as editors and dynamic young consultants as contributors means that established clinical practice material has been retained , but also new approaches presented.
- References carefully selected so that only essential ones are included, so you have just the information you need.
- The text is not consistently interrupted with citations and references to science and studies - only the relevant basic science in included and perfectly integrated into the dominant clinical content.
Hot new topics!
- New chapters on Mitochondriopathies and Channelopathies - both burgeoning areas.
- New chapter on Neurologic Complications of Pediatric HIV and AIDS - a difficult area for other specialists to handle.
- 40% new contributors.
- New Movement Disorder editor: Joseph Jankovic.
